Diagnoses

by Bennett831 on Wed Nov 28, 2012 6:56 pm

I started with neuropathy in the feet and then the hands. I was diagnosed with mgus causing neuropathy . I have been feeling exhausted and a lot of bone pain lately. At my quarterly blood test they said my protien spiked. Had all these tests including bone marrow biopsy aspiration .the results were multiple myeloma. I was ready to start treatment when my family wanted a second opinion the second opinion said no. First diagnoses was from Montefiore med. center they said I did. The second was msk. They are not sure maybe no. What should I do. I'm feeling worse as time goes my do I need a third opinion.

You're in NYC, correct? The first thing people asked when they found out I had SMM was, "are you going to go to Sloan Kettering? In my opinion, it's not the best hospital for this disease. I was lucky that there was a MMRF Symposium in Manhattan less than a month after diagnosis. I heard the top Myeloma doctors in the world speak. I've been going to a local oncologist but, went to Dr. Jagannath at Mt. Sinai for a second opinion. He asked if I wanted to participate in a trial of a drug to strengthen bone and possibly slow/stop the myeloma cells in the bone marrow. I agreed. My oncologist was going to work with Dr. Jagannath but recently thought I should start treatment. After a stressful few days Dr. Jagannath's team called me and told me his criteria was different and I don't need treatment. I don't need confusion in my life so, I left my oncologist and now, Dr. Jagannath is my Meyloma doctor. I recommend you try and get an appointment.
BTW, I've had every type of scan, MRI and skeletal survey. No lesions, no anemia and no symptoms. I wasn't about to start treatment. I feel fine.
