I was diagnosed with MGUS about ten years ago and was seeing an oncologist for annual blood work. I had no symptoms and felt great, running and working out 3-4 times per week.
In December, 2017 I pulled a rotator cuff while lifting weights and got an MRI which revealed bone lesions in ribs and spine. It was like a switch turned off and I was diagnosed with stage 2-3 multiple myeloma.
I had a difficult time the first few months with kidney issues and an infection and was hospitalized three times. My first therapy was with Velcade, cyclophosphamide (Cytoxan), and dexamethasone. I had a reaction to Revlimid but I believe its because I was given a high dose. In any case, the cyclophosphamide did not do anything much. My new regimen is Darzalex in combination with Revlimid 10 mg and Velcade and dex. This regimen has really brought my numbers down. My M-spike was at 11 and now at 2.1.
My doctor now wants to do a stem cell transplant, so I will be looking at the transplant experiences others have posted here in the forum. I have been looking for a place like this and am so happy to have stumbled upon it.
Thank you,
Jackie
