Deciphering new test results

by portland72 on Mon Dec 29, 2014 3:02 pm

After having severe back and rib pain for months, and after an initial set of blood tests (which I posted in this forum thread), the doctor ordered the following test. He is currently out of country for 3 more weeks, and I need an opinion on my results, please.

Protein Eletrophoresis, Serum
Alpha-1 3.7 g/dl
Alpha-2 0.25 g/dl
Beta 1.08 g/dl
Gamma 1.50 g/dl HIGH
Total Protein 7.5

Interpretation: Polyclonal Gammopathy suggest chronic infection, imflammation, collagen disease or sarcoid. Please continue reading!

IgG1 991
IgG2 391
IgG3 95 HIGH
IgG4 94

Urine Protein:
Albumin 20
Alpha-1 3
Alpha-2 15
Beta 40
Gamma 22

Interpretation:
Possible monoclonal protein in Beta area. Consider immunofixation electrophoresis of serum and urine.

I'm so confused. One test says polyclonal and the other monoclonal. Does any of this blood work look severely out of whack and point to multiple myeloma.

My calcium and protein is all fine!

Is the UPEP test a 24-hour urine test, or can it be done with just one urine sample?

I had my UPEP test, but was only one urine sample and they couldn't measure the M-protein.

Just making sure my lab did this correctly.
