Is remission possible with only 8 treatments of Darzalex, taken together with Pomalyst?
I just went through 8 weeks of Darzalex and Pomalyst one infusion a week for 8 weeks. I am now told that no cancer is in my bone marrow, based on a biopsy done January 27th 2017. I only had one bad side effect at my first treatment.
Is this possible?

Re: Darzalex & Pomalyst - is fast response possible?
I don't know what's possible as far as complete remission, but my husband did take Darzalex / Revlimid / dexamethasone for 8 weeks this past autumn and achieved a good partial remission (M-spike down to 0.6) before transplant. The treatment before that wasn't working and his M-spike had been going up, so Darzalex definitely turned things around fast.
Wonderful to hear it's working so well for you!

Re: Darzalex & Pomalyst - is fast response possible?
Do you plan to go on to transplant or will you continue with this treatment? Have you been on any other medication prior to this?
My mother was on RVD induction. She initially responded beautifully but the last 2 cycles she started to trend upwards. So much so they have delayed the transplant and will now do Darzalex / Pomalyst / dexamethasone.
I am curious what your doctor plans and am excited to see your great results!

Re: Darzalex & Pomalyst - is fast response possible?
As of Monday this week, the plan is to do another 8 weeks of Darzalex with Pomalyst and dex pills at home. The Darzalex will be every two weeks instead of weekly and Pomalyst. I discussed this with the doctor, and he did not want to commit to any other type of treatment until this round of treatment is completed.
I had been scheduled for a bone marrow transplant in July of 2016. This was not possible because I still had 75 percent of cancer in my bone marrow at the time they were wanting to do the bone marrow transplant. I did not have another bone marrow biopsy until November 2016. At that time, I had 70 percent cancer still in my bone marrow. That is when it was decided to try Darzalex with Pomalyst for 8 weeks to see what happened.
My latest bone marrow biopsy was the one that showed that I had done well on the first 8 treatments. It is important to note that in my initial bone marrow biopsy they biopsied three places in my lower back. That is when they determined that I still had 70 percent myeloma in my bone marrow. On the last one, the only did the biopsy in one place.
I will have to wait and see about the transplant. I am wanting to do the transplant for I feel that this is what it will take to get me in full remission.
Thanks for your reply.

That certainly is good news! I will have bone marrow biopsy next week, and it will also be after 8 infusions. I replied on one of your posts. I would assume if you have no myeloma cells in your bone marrow biopsy, then you have no M-spike? Certainly, the Darzalex is working!
