Long story short ... For a couple of years, my dad has been complaining about his back. It has been hurting after a fall from a construction site many many moons ago (as my grandma could say). He has had surgery in both neck and back.
Fast forward many years later. He started back complaining about his back started hurting, and that when he go to the doctor they do not see anything thing, give him pain meds and send him on. Until recently he went to the emergency room because of his back, they say his kidney isn't working. So he had to start on dialysis. He goes back to the doctor because he has started bleeding from his rectum and his back was hurting to the point when he had to be pushed around in a wheel chair.
Back at the ER they found out. It was there they found he has multiple myeloma. They did the procedure on his back and then they perform the bone marrow treatment. So today he went to the cancer doctor today and will start chemo next week. I don't know what stage it is and he won't tell me.
So I'm glad I found this site to see that there are other people out there that are going through the same type of situation. Sometime it's a large weight on my shoulders when you're a newlywed who has two kids going back to school and dealing with a sickly parent.
But I have faith and I'm giving it to God.

Re: My dad was just diagnosed
It's too bad that your father had to get to the point where he is now before they diagnosed the myeloma. But, at least he is being treated for it now and hopefully will respond well to the treatment. If your father hasn't been seen by an oncologist who specializes in myeloma, it would be a good idea to get a 2nd opinion from one when he is feeling a little better. Since he has so many complicating factors it is important that a specialist be on his treatment team. If you let us know where you live, someone here can probably give you the name of someone in your area.
All the best to your father,

Re: My dad was just diagnosed
I agree with previous poster, get to a specialist for myeloma!
My mom wasted a year with a regular oncologist, just about did her in. I brought her here to AZ to see a top specialist for myeloma and she is making really good progress in fighting this. (The oncologist in Oklahoma had said that he couldn't do anything more to help!).
I truly believe a myeloma specialist can give some people years! (Turns out my mom has a very aggressive myeloma so she didn't really have time to waste on someone who wasn't an expert)
