CyBorD stopped because of low neutrophils

by beebycarolann on Thu Nov 19, 2015 1:13 pm

So my husband's myeloma came back after a few months of remission after being on monthly melphalan, thalidomide and prednisone for close to a year.

He started Cybord (cyclophosphamide, Velcade, and dexamethasone). He was on it for 4 weeks. Then, because of low neutrophils of 0.8, treatment has been delayed. It has been 2 weeks since the last treatment. He goes again next week for blood work and then it will be decided if he has treatment.

His M-protein has been lowered to 60 g/L (0.6 g/dL) from 106 g/L (1.06 g/dL), so that is good.

Just wondering if anyone has had this happened to them.

My neutrophils, WBC's, RBC's and Hgb dropped quite low about 1 1/2 years ago while on Revlimid and dex. My doctor had me stop the Revlimid and then rechecked my bloodwork a month later. My blood levels had recovered in the month. We then decreased the dosage from 15 mg to 10 mg of Revlimid 21/7. Even at the lower dose my M-spike remained stable at 0.6 g/dl. I then had my regimen tweaked 6 months ago to Revlimid 10 mg every other day 21/7. My M-spike went up to 0.8 g/dl, but has held steady at that level.

So, your husband may show a recovery of his blood levels with the break from treatment. The doctors may try a different regimen for your husband, but almost all of the drugs can have a similar effect on blood levels.

All the best to your husband with his treatment,
Nancy in Phila

So, it has been 2 weeks since my husband's last cyclophosphamide, Velcade, and dexamethasone (CyBorD) treatment. Yesterday they postponed it for another 2 weeks. One full month. His neutrophils are still at 0.7 But his M protein continues to decrease to 58 g/L (5.8 g/dL) and free light chain results came in and the doctor is very happy with results.
