cutaneous disease in multiple myeloma

by bad blood on Tue May 14, 2013 3:45 pm

Well, I really didn't think I would need to come back to the forum looking for more answers. I was really hoping that I can escape the mgus drama for at least a year!! No such luck!
My medical drama/history is getting real old. Besides my normal everyday feeling like garbage. My new symptoms of skin lesions, which 2 doctors later cannot recognize is upsetting as well. Now my next stop is derm doctor. The lesions look similar to lymphomatoid papulosis. Anyone out there with those? With 3 different blood diseases, I am not sure why its presenting itself through my skin now. I have night sweats/low grade fevers and my bleeding disorders with mgus. Amyloid fat pad negative. It also looks like cutis leukemia, but platelets are ok. I am putting all my faith in this new derm doc now to finally give me some very needed answers.. Anyone with experience?

Hi Bad blood,

I was just recently diagnosed with MGUS, still waiting on biopsy results, but skin lesions are something familiar to me. I have had these off and on for years, and no one seems to know what they are from. One skin biopsy was inconclusive, but the pathologist mentioned in his report they seem like discoid lupus (this was six years ago). Family doctor said they look similar to ringworm, although a recent biopsy ruled out fungal issues but showed chronic perivascular inflammation, but they were looking for Sneddon's disease as a result of clotting issues. What they look for and test tissue for I think depends on the submitting diagnosis.

Mine are primairly on my lower legs, but have had them show up on my trunk and arms. They seem to go through cycles. When they come, they are very itchy for several days, then they get scaly and flakey. Sometimes they last upwards of 6 weeks, then go away. They seem to appear at the same locations over and over again, and after they disappear, they is noticable pigment changes. Wish I had answers for it too!
