Coumadin for DVT

I had a DVT caused by the PICC line while in the hospital for my SCT. I'm now on Lovenox shots for 28 days then they are talking about switching to Comadin. I'm very concerned with going on coumadin. I'm low risk, never had a DVT before and in good physical condition. Is this standard therapy? Is it necessary?

Hi mso,

As I'm sure you know, your doctor should be the one to answer that question for you but for what it's worth I would think that since you've had one DVT and as certain multiple myeloma medications can effect blood clotting (Revlimid in particular) that you should not be surprised to discover that you may need to take Coumadin on a long term, indefinite basis....perhaps lifetime. That circumstance is mine as well.
