I have set up a little spreadsheet but am unclear as to how to read it... I have read up on a lot of the different things on it, and that's fine. But my dr keeps talking about paraprotein and m-spike... those are not represented in the reports I get back. Where/how do I sort that?
BTW: this blood work was done in the middle of Cycle 3 of my 3-cycle 21-day VD chemo. I am not currently scheduled for any more Velcade, and will be finishing off with the Dex and wean by next Monday, when I will ALSO be having a consult regarding my pending/upcoming SCT... but my suspicion is that my iGg is still a bit high (I am IGg Lamba)... opinions on that?
A bit nervous about everything today... not sure what's wrong with me here. Been so upbeat most of the time. This is kinda unusual for me.

Hi Snip,
Thanks for posting the spreadsheet with your lab results. I've made it easier for everyone to view by including it as an attachment to your posting; people can just click on it and read it right away.
If, in the future, you want to update the results, you can either edit your posting to delete the old file and add an updated one, or write a follow-up posting that includes the new results as an attachment.
I look forward to what everyone has to say about interpreting the results!
Best regards,
Boris.

Snip-
I just looked at your chart. It looks like the Immunofixation results are probably the m-spike, or paraprotein results. According to your chart they were only detected once, but no numbers are given.
My blood tests include SPEP which is the protein electrophoresis test which usually says that nothing is detected, there is evidence of a band, but to small to quantify, or a number and a statement about it showing paresis or not showing paresis. The statement then suggests doing a urine electophoresis to detect Bence Jones proteins if there is a measurable protein band with paresis. The SPEP is the m-spike test.
Ask your oncologist or the nurse for more details about what numbers he is looking at to tell the cancer load among the tests that are done.

Re: Could use some bloodwork interpretation help ;)
The serum immunoglobulin IgG has fallen from an elevated level of 17.81 (normal 6.3-14.9) on April 26 to normal (11.03) on June 20. This is a good finding and in all likelihood the fall to normal was caused by a reduction in the malignant m-protein or m-spike.
Because the measured serum IgG immunoglobulin level is a combination of normal IgG and malignant IgG produced by the myeloma cells one cannot completely review your improvement without an immunoelectrophoresis. That report is not on your sheet. I would speak with your hematologist/oncologist at every doctor visist to get a handle on what the m-spike is doing.

I like the free Myeloma Manager available at manager.myeloma.org for tracking my results. It doesn't have all the tests but you can define the tests and ranges that you receive regularly and monitor your results. Also has calendar, contacts and notes to keep the details that may pertain to our care.
