We are planning a move out of state and so will be needing a multiple myeloma specialist for my husband in our new location. I already have a recommendation so now I am wondering how I go about contacting this doctor. Do we call for a consultation appointment, bring all records? Do online medical records suffice? Do we have our present specialist contact the new physician first?
Also, we are thinking of keeping our present specialist, and working with a local oncologist. What are the difficulties of an arrangement like this? Is it difficult to find a physician who will work with a specialist?

Re: Consulting with a myeloma specialist
Online records should generally suffice, but you might want to bring copies of your SPEPs, since the M-Spike info often doesn't make it into online results. I might do the same with your BMB pathology and FISH results. I would also bring a copy of the CDs that have you various imaging results.
My local oncologist had no issue when I mentioned the fact that I would like for him to take treatment direction from a top specialist (should I ever require it). But I imagine that every doctor is a likely different when it comes to this kind of an arrangement.
