constantly nauseated after ASCT, is endoscopy reasonable?

Hello,

Dad went through ASCT on Aug 28, and he was discharged three weeks later on Sept 17. As of today, Oct 9, it has been three weeks since he was discharged. His appetite has grown, but his stomach cannot take food. He feels full after a few spoons. He feels constantly nauseated. Yesterday he vomitted for the first time, and it worries us a lot. So I emailed my Doctor, and he said that it has been a reasonable time since transplant, and he encourages endoscopy. But I feel like it has not been a reasonable time, and I don't want to put Dad into another psychological and physiological burden of having to go to hospital for an endoscopy. He's currently on 10mg Domperidone 3x a day and Omeprazole. Please advice. Thank you.

Medicinal marijuana helps me thru nausea from Kyprolis/Revlimid/dex or Velcade/rev/dex. Its available here in NJ. I dont know about where you are. Controversial yes but it works better then any pill I've ever taken.

tpt.....If your father feels full after a few spoons of food, the doctor probably wants to check to see if there is any kind of obstruction in the digestive tract. Probably a good idea to go along with this, even tho it seems that it might put your Dad thru more discomfort. Hope all goes well with you and that he starts to feel better soon.

Thanks for the replies.

It actually got worse today; he couldn't take anything for dinner. His FBC and creatinine/ureum came out alright; so I suppose this makes him unlikely to have bleeding in his stomach?

Medical marijuana is not available here.

I've had this type of nausea where I couldn't take anything. He told me that this symptom appeared only a few days ago. He is too weak for endoscopy. Oh my God I hope he feels better when he wakes up tomorrow. We live in Southeast Asia.

So sorry to hear this. My advice is to put the trust in his care team and follow their recommendations. He is too weak because he is not eating and that seems unusual for now. We had something similar happen and it was C Diff. The likelihood that this will resolve over a night of sleep or on its own is low. Only in extreme circumstances wound I not do what the docs recommend. Maybe he has C Diff? Or, other symptoms he is too nervous to share with you and others.

I had problems with nausea for a couple of months after my SCT.
As to the marijuana? That was never one of my habits, but after losing 20% of my weight and still losing, a family member obtained some for me, it's illegal here. It was amazing and only took 1 or 2 inhalations to cure the nausea and allow me to eat. I'm not sure I would have survived without it.

Dear tpt,

Have you tried other nausea medications? Zofran or something along those lines? It is not unusual to still be nauseated 3 weeks out from discharge from the hospital, although many people are getting better by that point. I would suggest either the endoscopy or a more aggressive nausea regimen followed by endoscopy if that does not work.

I had my ASCT in June 14 of 2012 and I was nauseous until about the first or second week of September. Marinol helped but I still couldn't eat a lot. I ended up with malnutrition and dehydration that I struggled with for a bit. Small amounts of food several times a day finally got me going but time was the biggest factor for me. It just took time.
