Constant sinus drainage

by shortelm on Fri Jan 04, 2013 7:33 am

Has anyone had the problem of constant sinus drainage with this disease?

My husband has IgA myeloma and constant drainage to the point of not being able to lay down flat or he says he feels like he will drown. He has been like this for years off and on and it seems to be worse as the disease worsens.

Would appreciate any info... Thanks.

Hi there,

I am newly diagnosed with IgA myeloma also and I recently have been experiencing this same thing. I have now caught 4 different colds in 5 weeks and my nose has literally not stopped running or draining. However, I can sleep without it bothering me.

I would definitely bring this up to your doctor. Best of luck.

I would recommend making an appointment with your doctor and checking to see if you have sinusitis . In 2010-2011 I had sinusitis for over a year and did not realize it. I had a constant congestion and a runny nose all the time, but no fever, and had grown accustomed to this being normal. It was my girlfriend who pointed out to me that her trash cans being full of Kleenex was not normal and had me go see my primary care physician about it. I have read that sinusitis like shingles is more common in those with myeloma because of weakened immune systems. That visit to my doctor for my congestion eventually lead to the discovery I had stage III myeloma. I have had sinusitis twice since then. It can be tough to get rid of and often requires two to three weeks of high dose antibiotics. I have found the doctors in urgent care often misdiagnosis sinusitis for a common cold, bronchitis or allergies, but my primary care physician is aware of my medical history so I see if first if I suspect sinusitis.
