Cold before aggressive chemotherapy: should we wait?

by Gala on Tue Feb 13, 2018 10:06 pm

My sister is due to have a bridging cisplatin-based therapy following her relapse. She has been off any treatment for three weeks now. Her myeloma is very aggressive and they are keen to start treatment.

Unfortunately, she developed a cold after being admitted to hospital for treatment. She has been receiving antibiotics and antivirals. Her lungs are clear and the fever has now gone (has been normal for two days). She still has a cold and does not feel 100%. Also, her WBC count is consistently low, but that has been the case throughout her life with myeloma.

The doctors are planning to start the chemo sooner rather then later, possibly tomorrow.
Any thoughts on that plan? Is it a good idea given her cold?

We need to weigh the pros and cons of waiting vs. starting treatment.
