Good Morning all,
I also had some severe bone pain before the stem cell harvest, and took Tylenol-3's (they contain codeine). I understood that the pain was caused by the increase in stem cells in the marrow, which were getting into the blood stream. At least I knew that the procedure of harvesting stem cells was getting closer, and a few days later, did have the apheresis to harvest the cells. After that, the pain subsided.
For the first few days of Neupogen injections, I felt alright, but towards the end of that the pain in my legs was too intense for me to go out. The stem cell harvest went well though. At least this was a temporary phenomenon.
Good luck!

Re: Claritin vs. Zyrtec for Neupogen-related bone pain
I take daily Zyrtec year round and also took ibuprofen. I had no bone pain after my first treatment. The doctor did suggest Claritin, but said if the Zyrtec worked last time, try it again.

Jennifer,
You may want to check with your doctor about taking ibuprofen. Most myeloma doctors caution against taking that NSAID because of potential effects on kidney function.
