Chemo-induced peripheral neuropathy - solutions?

I am having neuropathy in my feet which can only be measured on the Scoville Scale.

What has anyone tried either OTC or Rx to treat that?

Dear Lin,

I don't know if this is at all helpful to you. I did three rounds of chemo in the fall and one of
the three drug regime I took was Velcade. I developed quite painful neuropathy and my doctor took me off the Velcade for round 4 of chemo. (That was in Nov.) Since then, the neuro. has
gradually decreased to a very manageable level. I did take Gabapentin (prescription) that really helped me.

Lin, sorry to hear about your neuropathy pain. My son is really into hot chili peppers, so I recognized the Scoville Scale immediately. It's one thing to have that kind of pain in your mouth when you can blame yourself because of what you ate, but it's a whole different thing if you get it in your feet, when you're just minding your own business taking chemo.

Like Sylvia B, I too have had some trouble with peripheral neuropathy due to Velcade. Lyrica, which is often prescribed for diabetes patents with neuropathy problems, has helped me a lot. Other things that can help are antioxidants like Alphalipoic Acid and L Carnitine. Also there's a study that showed that massaging your extremities with cocoa butter cream can help as well. I use all of these, but seem to get the most relief from Lyrica.

I am off chemo; but have painful neuropathy in my feet. It is difficult to go exercise after working with my feet feeling like I've walked on hot coals.

I have Bence-Jones kappa light chain myeloma. I have codeine for neuralgia and myalgia. I have had to use ibuprofen and Excedrin to help with my foot pain.

It is my understanding I should not be taking ibuprofen. I don't know about Tylenol. I am supposed to be on ASA to that fits.

What can I take?

I have a lotion that works some; but not totally.

Anybody else?

Moderator's note: Excedrin's active ingredients, in its basic ("Extra Strength") form, are: 250 mg aspirin, 250 mg acetaminophen (paracetamol, Tylenol), and 65 mg caffeine.
