Chemo curls

I have looked up "chemo curls" on the Internet, and have found a couple of things:

1. Almost everybody who talks about them dislikes, or downright hates, them, and
2. They go away in a year or so.

OK, before I lost my hair I had thick hair, wavy, not curly, and not-quite-red; going grey in splotches.

Now it's as thick as it used to be (whew) and very, very, very curly. As well, it's very grey -- considerably more 'salt' than "pepper,' and the "pepper' is very dark; almost black. I keep getting asked why I colored it that way, or who did my 'perm.'

However, everybody likes it, and nobody likes it more than I do. I'm in love with my chemo curls. Hair care is very different from what it used to be, but hey, I really like the 'shampoo, condition, go" ease of it, especially when it looks like I've been busy with a curling iron all morning.

I realize that many of you, being guys, might not be all that invested in this topic, but ... is it possible that I could (wistfully asking) KEEP my chemo curls? Will they go away? Do they have to?
