Changes in light chain ratio

by JudyM on Wed Sep 18, 2013 8:06 pm

Hi
I was diagnosed with IgG kappa MGUS earlier this year with an M protein of <0.3 g/dl and a kappa:lambda ratio of 2.22. Other blood work normal, negative skeletal survey and MRI spine normal. Bone marrow not undertaken. From my research this would seem to put me at intermediate risk of progression using the Mayo criteria.
My most recent bloods show a stable M spike and my kappa:lambda ratio is now 1.47. Has anyone any idea if this new ratio now means I go back to a low risk of progression, or does ever having had a raised ratio mean I remain at intermediate risk?
Thanks for any help anyone can offer as I am the sort of person who likes to understand what I am up against (though I know this thing gives us no guarantees!) :?

For full disclosure, I am not a great supporter of prognosticating MGUS . It needs to be monitored as any prognostic system is based on statistics and not individual patients. That said, a stable and low level of monoclonal protein does seem to be a good thing.
