Change in finger prints after ASCT
I am the caregiver to a family member who is coming up on her one year anniversary of an auto stem cell transplant. We have recently noticed that her fingerprints have changed. They are no longer swirled like fingerprints should be they are now straight lines...has any else experienced this post ASCT?

Re: Change in finger prints after ASCT
I recently had to get finger printed for security clearance and had an issue with my prints not appearing through the scanning machine. I ended up having to do it the old fashion way with the ink pad.

When looking at your prints have you noticed that they are now lined | liked that instead of the typical @ swirl pattern?

Re: Change in finger prints after ASCT
I must admit I thought that was crazy until I looked at my fingertips and same exact thing you are saying! What?! I can't believe it. I have had 2 autos. Now I just have vertical lines. Or, are the prints still the same, just hidden by the lines? So weird!

Re: Change in finger prints after ASCT
Funny, Since my SCT i did notice that my Skin was smoother and sensitive, all my friend where telling me that i looked younger, that was when i started paying attention to my skin and Unbelievable.. Thanks to this post, I just notice that My fingerprints, also, looks different, the patterns are smoother and very fain.
Wait till i tell this to my doctor about . Last time i mention the skin issue he just said it could be a side effect of the melphalan . as it started to get out of my system.

Re: Change in finger prints after ASCT
I am wondering if perhaps this isn't something that happens with most people but it just isn't noticed. After all who would think that finger prints would change. I will be interested to see what her doctors say when we go back in May.

Re: Change in finger prints after ASCT
I am now 4 1/2 years post auto stem cell transplant, but did not notice whether there were any changes in my finger prints. However, let us all remember that you are considered to have a New Birthday, due to a transplant, thus it does seem possible. What I did notice is all of my previous skin problems prior to transplant cleared up completely after the transplant. Things like bunions, sever planters wart, sever infection between my toes and absolutely no acme issues. Unfortunately after about 12 to 18 months most of these returned, except for the acme and toe infection.
