Cellulose insulation additives causing myeloma?

by Lin516 on Wed Oct 30, 2013 7:47 pm

Several years ago one of my clients had a wet cellulose insulation sprayed into their attic space. The smell was awful. We were told after it dried it would not smell as bad. This was toward the end of summer and eventually the smell died off although I could always smell it. I have a hyper sense of smell and can smell mold in someone's home.

About a year after, and having spent a day each week in the home up to 6 hrs. I began feeling like I was vibrating inside. No shaking of my hands, just all inside. I thought it was an external stimuli; but it wasn't. I went to my PCP who put me on antidepressants and something for sleep. Over the next three months I suffered with gradual diminishing symptoms.

About another year I began having the vibrations again and went back to my PCP asking to see a neurologist. I knew something was very wrong. He worked me up for MS and did a battery of labs finding my myeloma.

I am finishing my first cycle of VRD and really felt I was turning a corner.

Today I went to that client's home. It was really warm today and she had on her heat. By the time I left today I had a bad taste in my mouth and was vibrating again really strong. I am putting 2 + 2 together and am wondering if I am susceptible to the cellulose and additives to the point it has caused my myeloma?

I have had the same vibration/symptoms, among other symptoms. I am also very sensitive to smell and mold. I have often wondered if one of the causes could be renovation or home improvement exposures. I have never been exposed to any spray insulation that I know of, but who knows really. Mine might have come in the form of having hardwood floors refinished (the smell made me dizzy and black out at one point).

I hope autoimmune disease in relation to multiple myeloma will become the focus of studies soon, since these symptoms of exposure and multiple myeloma are similar to autoimmune symptoms.

I have often wondered about radiation, especially from the dirty bombs of the 50's. I know that immediately down wind multiple myeloma was well above average in parts of Utah, according to some information quite awhile ago. My sister and I were under the could, but probably close to 1000 miles from the zero. I have often wondered if we might not have gotten a dose from a light rain while playing outside?
There is no other cases of multiple myeloma in our extended family, yet my sister 2 years my junior, and I had/have it.
