Carfilzomib in combo

by Stann on Thu Feb 23, 2012 9:57 am

Apparently carfilzomib [Kyprolis] is being used in combinations with other agents.
A month ago, somebody in this forum adamantly claimed this was not the case.

From Marketwire. "Phase 3 Trial DesignThe ASPIRE (CArfilzomib, Lenalidomide, and DexamethaSone versus Lenalidomide and Dexamethasone for the treatment of PatIents with Relapsed Multiple MyEloma) trial is evaluating carfilzomib in combination with lenalidomide and low-dose dexamethasone, versus lenalidomide and low dose dexamethasone alone"

I've been on a myeloma information holiday for the past month. It's nice to just forget about it!

Hi Stann,

I recall their being a complaint in the forum that carfizomib was not being used in combo with pomalidomide.

Have you found that there is a clinical trial with that combination?

After all you must have noted that several of us in the forum ARE presently in trials with carfilzomib in combo with revilimid and dexamathosone. Surely, you read Kevin's column?

Several posts have also been made in the forum about that combination you cited above in relapsed patients while that combo is old information, what is new information to many is that there are trials for the newly diagnosed with that same combination.

Which were reported on at ASH 2011 and 2010.

Did you miss those?

pomalidomide in combo with carfilzomib is the issue.

O, BTW...it is definitely political as in revenue streams for BIG PHARMA that combo is not available.

I certainly agree that it is nice to forget and not think about multiple myeloma especially when our 'chemo brains' can not be relied on to recall information correctly and then those brain destabilizing steroids have us express ourselves aggressively.

Imagine, mentally unstable folks upset, being adamant about stuff that ain't even true?

Quite the conundrum.

Enjoy your day.
