In July 2012, my husband had stem cell transplant for multiple myeloma, that was diagnosed
June 2011. His 100th day will be November 7th. His only problem is that he has pain between his shoulder blades. He fell back in April & crushed is L4 in his vertebra & it was
repaired. Due to this, an MRI has been done but results have not been received. Has
anyone with multiple myeloma had pain in the same area & what was done.

Hi Wanda, I am really sorry to hear about the terrible pain that your husband has, and I hope that he can get some relief from that soon. Is the thalidomide program working against his myeloma? i sure hope so. Maybe some others will post who have had the same sort of pain in the kidneys. Best wishes to both of you!

Wanda and Dan, shortly after I was diagnosed I developed severe pain in the lower upper back and it was due to a crushed nerve root from the myeloma and vertebral compression; given his recent trauma, I suggest that they look at that as a possibility as neurogenic pain is usually the most severe. Radiation for 4 days followed by 10 days of bed rest lead to resolution of the pain in my case.

My mom was taken to the hospital a couple of weeks ago after a month of bad headaches but no other symptoms at all. She was immediately diagnosed with kidney failure and spent 10 days in the hospital for kidney failure. She was given a kidney biopsy and her nephrologist was surprised to learn that the test came back showing signs of multiple myeloma. She had a full body x ray that confirmed that she had damage to her skull but no other damage to any other part of her skeleton. She is starting pheresis and chemo next week and is on dialysis as well. A lot to happen in a couple of weeks! This is all new to all of us and we are learning all about a disease we had never heard of before. My mom is 60 years old next week and in good health her whole life.
