Can MGUS cause weight loss?

by sadiamitil on Sat Jul 02, 2016 7:22 pm

Hello!

Can MGUS cause weight loss? As far as I can understand, only active (symptomatic) multiple myeloma can cause weight loss.

Another question is why active myeloma causes weight loss. It seems to me that the main reason for weight loss before starting any treatment would be the bones are becoming lightweight as they lose calcium, which then goes into the blood .

What would be other reasons for multiple myeloma causing weight loss? If someone does not have CRAB symptoms, then why would he or she lose weight?

Any suggestion/tips would be very helpful.

Thanks

There aren't any answers, but it is an interesting question. My husband was recently diagnosed with smoldering multiple myeloma and now has weight loss. Would love to know if that might be relevant to our situation.
