Bruising while on Revlimid - anyone else have it?

by Kaew on Tue Mar 25, 2014 7:35 am

I started Revlimid as a maintenance about a year ago, started with 10 mg with 325 mg of aspirin, did ok for 5 months, then my platelets kept coming down. So my doctor cut back to 5 mg for 3 months. Now I'm back at 10 mg. My platelets stay between 50 - 70.

I now have lots of bruises. Anyone has bruises while on Revlimid?

5mg Revlimid is easy to tolerate.

Yes, I used to get lots of bruising, even before my diagnosis. Then while taking Velcade, and also when taking Revlimid. But I was also taking low dose aspirin as a 'blood thinner' to prevent clotting, at that time. Low platelet counts can also cause bruising.

It's good to try to avoid any sorts of bumping into objects such as furniture, and keeping aisles clear of objects that way. One can get bruised more easily than normally if one has low platelet counts, or is taking a blood thinner.

Kaew I bruise easily and have for some time. I've been told it's partially from the after effects of steroids on my skin and because I hover around a 100 on platelets. The majority of my bruising is on my arms and it lessens somewhat on other parts of my body.
