For those of you who have had broken ribs, how long did it take for them to heal? Was there anything you could do to improve the time it took to heal them?
Thanks.

Re: How long do broken ribs take to heal?
Broken ribs are often the very first sign of multiple myeloma at work.
My ribs broke in a fall in late 2008.
They have never healed ( bone to bone, that is). They have "scarred over" and generally stay in place--but they do remind me--when I do any hard trunk twisting exercise / movement / throwing / jumping .
I was Diagnosed in early 2012, when a Plasmacytoma grew out of my forehead / skull.
The consensus is that Zometa, etc. do assist in the stabilization--have an anti-myeloma effect-- and stimulate some Osteoclast/ Osteoblast functions, to help heal bones, but my ribs still have a gap in them, almost 7 years later. A Fibrous cartilage, etc have filled the gaps between distal and proximal fragments.
I can still function, but I'm not playing Rugby, Football, etc. ever again. That's okay.
Some people claim taping the chest helps--others are anti-taping. I did not tape.
I had 3 fx's--two complete fx's and one approximated, still.
A "Flail Chest" is sometimes encountered and needs stabilization of the area. Ask your provider if you suspect you have multiple rib Fx's that "Flail", as you deep breathe..
Good luck
