Bone pain after stem cell transplant - how long?

by BarbCF14 on Mon Mar 17, 2014 6:26 pm

I'm curious to know from other members: if you had myeloma-related bone pain prior to your stem cell transplant (SCT), how long after the SCT did the pain persist?

My husband had a high percentage of lytic lesions at diagnosis (8 months ago), and significant bone pain (several broken ribs, so pain there, but also in back and thighs). Pain subsided gradually with treatment (Velcade, Dex and Zometa). Was hospitalized for extreme pain during stem cell mobilization (attributed to "healthy" marrow, i. e. produced 57mm cells in one three-hour session).

He is now six weeks post-SCT and still experiencing this pain; it has lessened somewhat and is managed through pain meds, but we are wondering how normal this is and how long we might expect it to last. His numbers 4 weeks post-SCT all looked really good (e.g. M spike 0.3) and his immune system bounced back remarkably quickly (doc said results were amazing).

His doctor wants us to come for a visit, but we're not sure what they'll do at this juncture. We'll go back in two weeks for another round of tests, but would like to know what others experienced.

Thanks
