Hi Nancy, So glad to know that your pain has been diminished by so much , with the help of your chiropractor, and that your oncologist is doing tests too. What an ordeal! Thanks for letting us know how it turned out.

Dear Nancy,

I am a 50 year old who just had a bone marrow biopsy [BMB] on July 15. It was first done in the right side due to having one done back on June 24 on the left side. This will be my third BMB. My anatomy on the right was not cooperating, so it was then completed on the left side. After the procedure, I noticed excruciating pain in the right when I put weight on it, moved leg, lifted or flexed the leg or crossed it.

To make a long story short, a friend drove me home instead of me driving as I had planned to do. My doctor actually helped me to the passengers side with my friend. He gave me a script for Percocet [oxycodone+ acetaminophen / paracetamol], which I now need to fill as today the pain did not subside and there is bleeding, especially at the right side.

I have been icing and nurturing the area. Obviously I did not work today or tomorrow, as I am using crutches to get around since last night. I am so grateful my friend still kept them after her surgery. It is extremely excruciating to lift bend or ambulate without the crutches.

My hematologist has been checking in on me and is an excellent and caring doctor. He told me it's musculature pain, which I have no doubt is pushing on my sciatic nerve, as the pain shoots from right lateral hip all the way down. I will have my fiancé massage the buttock area muscles to seek relief. My doctor said this should be resolved in a few days.

Please let me know how all went for you. Take care of yourself,

Yvette

I was researching bone marrow biopsy and hematoma and came across this post.

My mother (75) had a 2nd bone marrow biopsy (1st done about a year ago) to find out if there were any changes. She has been diagnosed with MDS [myelodysplastic syndromes]. A little background, she is a long time Coumadin patient, has had 2 valve replacements, breast cancer and a few other conditions, but these are the most significant.

She told me during the biopsy the provider had to go in twice. Ok - she seemed ok after, but about 6 days later she called me crying because she was in terrible pain. Called 911 and she cried for the next 2 weeks because of the pain. She was in the hospital that long, and still when discharged she had tremendous pain. She had numerous tests while in the hospital, etc. She has a huge hematoma, the size of a grapefruit. She refused to go to a rehab facility since she was in the hospital for 2 weeks. She is getting rehab at home and is getting a little better though she is still unable to walk.

I guess my question is: why did this happen?? With her history of blood thinner medication she has always had procedures done as an inpatient, but they DID NOT do that this time.

I would appreciate any information as my poor mother has been through so much and it breaks my heart to see what has happened to her. Additionally, the physicians just think she can get into a car and come back for appointments. SHE CAN'T EVEN WALK.

I had a bone marrow biopsy one and a half weeks ago. I am and have had numbness in my private area on the side where the biopsy was done. I had a hematoma 4 hours after the biopsy and went to the ER where they did a CT scan and it was o.k. Today there was also tingling and I am still having pain in my left cheek down to my thigh. Is this normal? It is a deep, deep soreness and hurts especially when I get up or down from sitting.
