Hi Folks,
My latest bone marrow biopsy has the following statement:
Plasma Cell Disorder / FISH Details:
An insufficient number of plasma cells was available for this FISH test. This result does not exclude the presence of a plasma cell proliferative disorder.
Does this mean that I will need to undergo another bone marrow biopsy to "try again"?
The biopsy report also says:
"Clinical and pathologic correlation is recommended ...
Result Summary Normal
No clonal abnormality was apparent."
Thank you!
Jon

Re: Biopsy says "insufficient number of plasma cells"?
Hi Jon,
We just had this same thing happen to my husband. There are two parts to the bone marrow biopsy: one part is the aspirate, which is the outer/liquid portion, and one is the core.
I am guessing so far you just had the aspirate come back with too few cells, and you still may get some answers when the core biopsy comes back.
In my husband's case, I believe there were too few cells because his marrow (from the core biopsy) is "markedly hypocellular". It may also be that the biopsy just hit on an area that didn't yield much, as I understand bone marrow can be patchy.
