Good afternoon all.
I just wanted to quickly chime in. I understand that there are doctors much more knowledgeable than I ... but, upon closely reading the bone marrow biopsy, there is a lot more detailed info as compared with the full blood work up. You would need to know this to evaluate the effectiveness of the ASCT. If it were me, that is something I would want to know.
Good luck.

Re: Did you have a BMB before your stem cell transplant?
Ok, when my husband had his bone marrow biopsy at diagnosis, they found 50-60% plasma cells in his bone marrow. Unfortunately, his sample was hemodiluted, so they could not run all the cytogenic testing. They did do the FISH and it showed standard risk myeloma.
I guess part of my concern is that his progress has been amazingly slow. So it makes me wonder if, in fact, there are risk factors present that were not found because his aspirate was not usable. Although I suppose that, either way, it would not make any difference, since the treatment would be the same either way. He goes in on August 31 for his transplant.

Re: Did you have a BMB before your stem cell transplant?
Hello, Melanie: I just wanted to reiterate the point I was trying to make before, so I am sorry in advance if this comes off repetitive. If you get the bone marrow biopsy just before and after the ASCT, you can evaluate the ASCT. If you don't , you are guessing. Good luck.
