BMB results - what questions should I ask?

by Toni on Thu Aug 28, 2014 2:49 pm

This may seem silly, but I'd like to prepare some questions for my appointment tomorrow. I will be getting the results of my BMB percentages. I feel pretty strongly that my results will be low, in fact I'd be surprised if they were much over 5%.

Be that as it may, I like to capitalize on any doctor appointments I have, since face-to-face time with a physician is usually brief and I always seem to forget any questions I might have until after the appointment.

What questions would you or did you ask? What questions do you wish you had asked?

I know for my specific situation I will ask about some blood tests that are slightly out of range: lymphocytes, IgM, uric acid, vitamin D and what, if anything, can be done about it or how they might manifest in my health. I also want to ask about my frequent (mild) illnesses.

Assuming we've verified a MGUS diagnosis, I would need to confirm frequency of follow up and if SPEPs can be done locally for tracking. Also, what kind of reasons would I contact the hem / onc.

Can you think of anything else?

How often are you tracked for SPEP? Are you satisfied with how your health care providers are following up with you? Do you think it should be more or less frequent?

Thank you for any and all input!
