blood transfusions

by curious on Tue Feb 14, 2012 10:24 am

My mom is on her 3rd cycle of treatments which is 4 treatments per month and consist of the Velcade, the Revilid pill and a steroid pill. She is in the hospital now to get a blood transfusion because her hemoglobin levels were low. Is is common for this to happen?

Thanks for your input!

Michelle,
While getting chemo the counts will drop, so it is not uncommon to need blood and or platelets.

I had one blood transfusion shortly after I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma because of low hemoglobin. I had several blood platelet transfusions shortly after my stem cell transplant because of low platelet counts. Anyway, that's my experience. I think this is fairly common by I don't know for sure.
