Blood pressure issues??

by Anonymous on Sun Sep 22, 2013 12:01 am

Anyone having issues with blood pressure fluctuating? Hubby is almost 6 months post transplant, maintenance free except valtrex and bactrim till he can get his shots. Here lately after doing any light activity his face gets really red and we check his blood pressure which is a little on the high side. I know some of the side effects of the prescriptions say to stay out of direct sunlight, which we do. Was just curious if anyone's had these issues. Also, any suggestions on how to keep from getting a cold while still having such a " young" immune system??

Sorry I can't help out on the BP issue ... but as far as not getting colds - some old fashioned advice: Hand Washing! My husband's transplant was 2 years ago. We still had 2 kids in school at the time. Everybody was diligent to wash their hands every time they were coming into the house. I also always use the disinfectant wipes on the grocery cart handles. I always thought we were a fairly "clean" family before, but all of us have had less colds in the last 2 years than we did before. Also have anybody living at home get the flu shot. Your husband's doctor will tell him when is able to have his flu shot.

I have high blood pressure, but not multiple myeloma (I'm a caretaker). Blood pressure goes up and down during the day. It doesn't surprise me that it would be a little elevated after light activity. I often take mine in the grocery store, when I'm trying to rush home from work and I've been sitting in traffic for an hour. It's never good then, even though I'm on medicine!

My suggestion is to track his BP at the same time everyday for a while. If it's consistently elevated, you may want to see the doctor about it.

Good luck,

Lyn
