Beta Microglobulin

by WeatherNurse13 on Thu Nov 21, 2013 6:22 pm

How important is the beta microglobulin II test/results after reaching a complete response?

I'm curious why you are asking? Beta-2 microglobulin is an important prognostic indicator to monitor in those with plasma cell disorders and is also used in the ISS staging of myeloma. Are your current levels normal? If you are in CR (congrats if you are), I would think you would want to continue monitoring the Beta-2 level as part of your ongoing tests.

I haven't had many Beta Micoglobulin tests drawn.Just wondererd if they were used just for the diagnosis or if they were used for monitoring after SCT and remission. My initial test was over 7.0. I did have a complete response and remain cancer free at this time. I will get one drawn at my next visit. Thanks for your response.
