Before my stem cell transplant in April of 2013, I developed toxoplasmosis on the retina of my left eye. It was diagnosed at Wills Eye Hospital, and I have been seeing a retina specialist locally since.
The problem I now have is that I am relapsing and the toxoplasmosis is back. I was put on Bactrim DC (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim), which affected my creatinine level, so my oncologist was having questions about when to start treatment. I went off the Bactrim for 10 days and creatinine was normal. From what I understand, as long as my immune system is weakened, the toxoplasmosis will be a problem. Most chemo is set according to creatinine levels.
Any ideas, suggestions? Did anyone else ever have this problem? My kidneys had failed at time of diagnosis.

Sorry that you have to deal with both of these things at the same time.
In general, Bactrim can raise the serum creatinine, but often not by direct injury to the kidney. Bactrim actually 'artificially' elevates the creatinine (by impaired secretion of creatinine into the renal tubules). So, in general, you should be able to remain on the Bactrim and be treated normally for the myeloma (without dose modification).
Of course, what is most helpful is to have a multiple myeloma specialist to guide you, as any approach would need to be modified depending on results, side effects etc.
