In all honesty, in the four years since my diagnoses, I have only had a couple of very minor problems ... and one case of shingles last summer. Yeah, yeah. That wasn't fun AT all.
However, previous to my diagnosis and treatment for multiple myeloma, my pattern was: get a cold, get bronchitis, get pneumonia, get asthma, get over it. It happened to me two to three times every year for, well, years.
Then I got told I have multiple myeloma, got treated for it, and haven't had so much as the sniffles since. Of course, my docs make very sure I get all the vaccines (except shingles).
True, I'm the original hermit: I HATE parties and big groups, and though I still teach, it's from my computer and only part time. I'm not a fan of crowds, but I've been to Disneyland with my daughters several times without getting anything but a sunburn where I forgot the SPF gazzillion sunscreen.
I take care of my puppy (I guess she's not a puppy anymore ... sniff), take care of my parents, and do pretty much what I want to do (and use multiple myeloma as an excuse to get out of doing the stuff I do NOT want to do, like go to big bash parties – whee!).
The lesson to take from this?
EVERYBODY IS DIFFERENT. Some of us will have problems. Some of us won't. Here's hoping you won't.
