Re: Average hospital stay for stem cell transplant?
I am about 3 hours away from the clinic where I'm having it done. I think the 4 to 6 weeks was before and after inpatient also for the testing, so I'm close.
Re: Average hospital stay for stem cell transplant?
I had my transplant done as an outpatient procedure at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. My infusion day was May 24th and I left June 14, so I was there exactly 3 weeks. I did have a brief neutropenic fever, but that probably only added a day to my stay. I did not have any severe diarrhea or nausea or any other kind of complications to hold me up. From what I've read and my nurses told me, two to three weeks is the norm. Good luck!

Re: Average hospital stay for stem cell transplant?
My husband had his transplant in May 2014 at the University of Alabama - Birmingham. The stay in hospital was 10 days. His platelets had to reach 60,000 before he could be released from hospital. Then we were put in a Hope Lodge for 3 weeks. Platelets had to reach 150,000 before he was released to go home. He would go to hospital every other day for blood work to check his platelets.
Yet there were 2 people that had their transplant at the same time. They were never sick from the chemo, Platelets went up and were released from hospital after 7 days to go home. Each person is different.
