Cindy, good luck with your transplant!

I had mine in March and I'm curious if yours is scheduled as an inpatient? I had mine done at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY and I was inpatient for a total of 20 days and restricted to the local area for the next 2 weeks.

In reading KimT and Larry's stem cell transplant updates, I'm interested in the different approaches to treatment. I didn't always enjoy being stuck in the hospital, but when some of the more challenging days occurred, it was nice to know I was in good hands!

Mine is scheduled as outpatient, but they said 90% of patients end up getting admitted to the hospital for an average of 2-3 weeks. I will be in Seattle for about 4-5 weeks before the actual transplant for testing and Neupogen. I am hopeful to be cleared to return to California by the 10-week mark so I can be home full time with my family and for the holidays.

Most of my extended family lives in Seattle and they will be doing my care taking. My husband and son will be in CA and just visiting. There is an added emotional strain to the process because my son who is 19 has autism and was diagnosed with epilepsy two weeks ago, so we are trying very hard to get that under control before I leave...

Cindy,

I am so sorry to hear of your son's recent epilepsy diagnosis. That must be so concerning for you and your husband, especially in light of his autism.

As I've been told before, though, you will need to concentrate on your health and rely on your husband to care for your son. It will be ok. Sometimes when we're out of the picture, other people rise to the occasion. I think it's very hard especially as a mom to let go, but your health is so important especially right now.; My children have some special needs as well and it is hard to let go and let others care for them.

I hope and pray for you that you are able to have some peace of mind as you go into this SCT so that you can have the best possible outcome and go through it with the least side effects. I'll be keeping you in my thoughts and I know everyone here will be cheering you on!
