I was diagnosed February 2015, IgG kappa, and am now in the fourth round of treatment with RVD (Revlimid, Velcade, and dexamethasone). My ANC dropped last week, so my doctor had me get 4 daily shots of Neupogen this week.
On my 4th day (yesterday), I noticed my abdomen felt tight, and today (Saturday, of course), it really seems much larger which, I can especially feel when taking deep breaths.
Can Neupogen cause ascites (swelling of the abdomen due to an accumulation of fluid)? Or the myeloma itself?
Any tips on what to do? I get labs and see the doctor Monday morning.
Thanks.
P.S. - Minimal bone pain from the Neupogen, just a little in lower posterior ribs. Also makes deep breathing a little tight. O2 level was 100% Thursday.

Re: Ascites - side effect of Neupogen, dex, or ... ?
Hi heddleandhook,
I was wondering what you found out at your doctor's appointment. When I saw your posting this weekend, my first thought was that perhaps what you were experiencing was related to the diverticulitis that you've had. Is that what it turned out to be?
Whatever it was, I hope it didn't turn into anything serious.

Re: Ascites - side effect of Neupogen, dex, or ... ?
Thanks for replying. The doctor said some people have reported that bloating can occur with the meds, I'm not sure which one in particular. It seems to come and go, and very well may be related to general intestinal issues. I know the Velcade seems to be the cause of some constipation, which I am being meticulous about preventing.

Thanks for the additional information. If you ever find out which of the drugs tends to cause bloating, that would be interesting to know.
I hope the bloating has subsided, and that you manage to avoid any of the constipation side effects you mentioned.
