The news for patients with "high risk" myeloma is that myeloma experts are beginning to focus on this subsegment of the disease. New studies will be opening in the near future to learn if we can improve outcome for patients with hypodiploidy, Del17P, t(14;16),t(14;20), t(14;20) and high risk gene expression profilies (GEP) using existing drugs like Revlimid and Velcade. Many experts feel that treatment (induction and maintenance) should be Velcade based as there is eveidnce that bortezomib may help to overcome high risk features of the disease. Keep tuned for now.

Thank you Dr. Libby for answering my questions;

My father got bortezomib [Velcade] induction together wih Caelyx [Doxil -doxorubicin liposomal].
Unfortunately he had neuropathy in his feet.
After ASCT he reached only a VGPR.
During diagnosis he had also a very high calcium level;
I think this is also a hint for a very aggressive disease?!

Now he is in remissions since 6 month......
we hope, time work for us!

:(
