I am heading in to have my apheresis consult, then first growth factor shot today. Then enter the hospital on 4/11 for my stem cell transplant (SCT). I've read up on all the side effects of the process.
Outside the treatment, does anyone have any advice on what I can bring to make the process as easy going as possible. I have books to read etc. But anything that will make the time more pleasant?

Take Claritin and Tylenol for the bone pain associated with Neupogen injections. Take the Claritin preemptively and the Tylenol as needed. If Mozobil is used, be aware of diarrhea immediately after the injection

Check with your doctor for safety, but I would recommend taking Claritin as a precaution for the bone pain that some people get with the shots. I saw it mentioned here before I had my Neupogen injections, but then didn't start it until I had really bad pain on about day 4 of the shots. I took a Claritin everyday for the pain going forward, and I only suffered for a day. My doctor wasn't really familiar with it being used for that, but the nurses at the stem cell harvest were. (As I'm posting this, I see Goldmine is saying the same thing!)
As far as getting through the process, think long boring plane ride and bring what you would for that.

Thanks for the guidance and advice. All in all, the growth factor side effects have been tolerable.
I will have the central line catheter placed this morning followed by my final Neupogen injections. Later in the evening I go back for the Mozobil injection. Apheresis is tomorrow.
Spending the day in a recliner is something I had gotten used to before and after spine surgery. Should be interesting.
