My husband was diagnosed April 13th 2011. His pain level was very high for the 1st month and 1/2 till the drugs kicked in. He is taking Vel/Dex/Rev. Then for pain he started out on 20 mg. Oxycontin. Within the last 3 weeks, he has came down to 10mg. Oxy's because the pain level had gotten alot better. Last week however, the pain suddenly got worse in his shoulder area and he's having tightness in his legs. He is still working 3 1/2 days a week in a job that requires him to be on his feet alot. Could this be the problem or did he try dropping off the pain medicine to much at one time?? Any comments on this would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Karen

Re: Any comments on Leg Tightness
Hello,
My best advice is that you bring these complaints to the attention of your husbands hematologist/oncologist ASAP to be sure they do not represent new disease, DVT,etc.

Thanks Dr. Libby. Terry had a chemo treatment on Monday. He also saw the PA. She wasn't too concerned. She told him that he was going to have to deal with this on going pain till the transplant. That didn't set too well with him. We would have liked to have seen the doctor and gotten his opinion but were told we would have to make another appointment. The weekend was really painful for him. Had a lot of swelling in both knees and welp like spots appeared on both knees. He is having trouble getting up and down steps right now. His M-Spike is down now from 4.4 in April to 1.7. That's encouraging. We met with the Dr. at Duke 3 weeks ago and they are hopeful to start the transplant process by the end of Aug. He keeps taking chemo till around the middle of August and hopefully that will pull the levels down below .1. Just not sure about this leg pain right now though.

Re: Any comments on Leg Tightness
Have you noticed any relation between the pain and dex? When I was on the pulsed high dose dex I would have really bad withdrawl type pains the day I stopped it, especially in my arms and legs. Nothing really to to but take pain pills.
If he has bone pain is he on zometa or pamidronate (bone medicines)?

Re: Any comments on Leg Tightness
Is your husband on any prophelactic med to prevent blood clots, i.e., low dose aspirin or a blood thinning med? Might be something to check out. I noticed that the Dr. suggested possible DVT. Maybe an ultrasound of his legs would be appropriate.
Good luck,
Debi
