Antibiotic Resistance

The issue of antibiotic resistance has been flagged up in recent times as a major global issue. Its relevance in myeloma is obvious as we are more prone to infections, even without chemotherapy as well as from it. It would be good for research now to focus on this, for reasons the report indicates.

Edna, I myself have wondered why my taking acyclovir every day will not eventually result in resistance to this drug which I believe is an antibiotic; perhaps I am mistaken.

Acyclovir is an antiviral.

Antivirals kill viruses.

Antibiotics kill bacteria.

But the same basic principles.and concerns regarding overuse and potential resistance applies to both classes of drugs.
