Salamanca, Oct 19 (EFE). - The hematologist of the “12 de Octubre Hospital” in Madrid and coordinator of the Spanish Myeloma Group (GEM), Dr. Juan José Lahuerta, said today that certain clinical trials show that the survival of patients with Multiple Myeloma is 75% at six years after suffering this type of cancer.
This was stated in Salamanca to the media on occasion of his participation in the LIV National Meeting of the Spanish Society of Hematology and Hemotherapy (SEHH) and XXVIII National Congress of the Spanish Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (SETH).
In words of Doctor Lahuerta, who has emphasized the importance “of detecting the disease early”, Multiple Myeloma “shows different clinical behaviors and still it is difficult to establish profiles of individual treatments tailored to the biological complexity of the tumor”.
However, he stressed that the GEM, through his studies and clinical trials, has found that the survival of patients has "improved dramatically" and he gave the example that the clinical trial "GEM05 under 65" has shown that "at 6 years of suffer this cancer survival is 75% of patients and is increasing day after day."
