An Exciting Saturday Night

Not that I was ever a big partier, but ...

I can't help but laugh at myself a little tonight. My exciting Saturday night activity is filling up my next week's worth of AM and PM pill containers. Eight pills for the morning and seven for the evening, with one more pill to be added to the PM containers when I begin my next maintenance cycle on Wednesday after my monthly doctor visit.

Not to mention (but I will :) ) the monthly pentamidine treatment I'll get Wednesday and the quarterly Zometa treatment I'll also get Wednesday.

It's no wonder my 2016 healthcare insurance company has gone bankrupt. :(

Mind you, I'm not complaining, just observing. I'm very thankful that these pills and treatments are keeping the myeloma at bay and keeping me in relatively good shape. It's just that Saturday nights used to be a lot different.

I laughed when I read this because I also now think of Saturday nights as pill-filling nights and just got done with my husband's pillbox. It's funny to think that two years ago he wouldn't take so much as a vitamin or aspirin, and now he's exited that there's "only" 4 or 5 pills in each compartment because they cut so many of them out in preparation for the transplant. Not what I used to think of as a way to mark the rhythm of life, but hey, it's better than the alternative.

Gotta love it! Hey, you are not alone! I find myself, on a Saturday night just being thankful that i wasn't vomiting that day. Just don't do that partying scene anymore.

Yes, Saturday nights certainly have changed whether if be from myeloma, age, both, whatever. I have a different way of managing my pill regimen than in the pill box so I don't have that excitement of seeing them filled. But, I have enjoyed not having to take as many since I now have a new diagnosis that calls for different, and fewer, pills.

Over the coming few weeks of the holiday season for many of us of many faiths, let's try to put the myeloma worries aside for moments at a time. It's a time to celebrate life, family, friends, our medical teams, etc. Enjoy that you are here. Enjoy the lights, food, music and whatever other festivities you can participate in.

Good point, Nancy.

When I step back from the day to day annoyances, I realize I have tons to be thankful for and to celebrate.

And I'm right with you on the hot chocolate! :)
