Re: Always maintanence?
My doc measures my myeloma by both bone marrow biopsies and lambda free light chain counts. When I was first diagnosed last year I had 85-90% myeloma in my bone marrow and my lambda free light chain count was over 1200. I had multiple lesions on my chest and back with some fractures. I was very anemic and my kidney function was at 50%. I have since reached the 100 days mark after my stem cell transplant and have come into complete remission (no evidence of myeloma at all in my bone marrow) and my light chain count is normal. I have chosen not to do maintenance therapy for a couple of reasons -- the first being that I want to be drug free for as long as I can and get my body back to as normal as possible and second, I want the maintenance therapy drug (Revlimid) to work when I might need it in the future. The doc did say it shouldn't matter as it is the "combination" of drugs that will work in the future even if I need them. It was my choice and I realize the literature suggests that the maintenance therapy prolongs remission longer than no maintenance therapy but I am willing to take that chance for the freedom from chemo drugs for a while.

Re: Always maintanence?
Chris,
We are in Sydney Australia. I think maybe 10 for us is the same as 1 for you so the 13.5 on his last reading might be 1.35 on your scale. And the 4 after the SCT might be 0.40. He said when he underwent the SCT his bone marrow was 28%.

I would suggest dividing latitia's values by 10, Chris. Most of the world deals in g/l, but the usa deals in mg/dl, and the difference is that yours is 1/10 of ours. So where she was referring to 6, you would have referred to 0.6
It threw me for a while, too

Re: Always maintanence?
I don't know what measurement unit is used in Australia. But since 1g is 1000mg and 1l is 10 dl, the conversion from g/l to mg/dl is 1g/l = 100mg/dl, or 1mg/dl = 0.01g/l.
