A note of caution here: there is some preliminary evidence that green tea interferes with the effectiveness of bortezomib (Velcade).

Essiac tea has extremely weak data, mostly because no peer reviewed trials have ever been successfully conducted. There is some evidence that some of the individual components have anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer activity. Importantly, one of the components also has PRO-cancer activity. It is unknown if the individual components are present in sufficient quantities in Essiac tea to have any effect, positive or negative.

My husband recalls researching Essiac tea a year ago, and remembers finding a report that the Canadian nurse who developed it had faked her data, thereby discrediting her original claims. I can't find that report on a cursory search right now. But maybe I'll have time to look more closely later.

I also found an important report that curcumin interferes with the effectiveness of cyclophosphamide (Cytoxan).

I think this one is so important because both curcumin and cyclophosphamide are so common among myeloma patients!

Re: Alternative therapy / treatments for multiple myeloma
Anyone have significant successes utilizing alternative therapies, i.e., IP6, curcumin, etc., vs. standard medical protocol?

Thank you,

As my mom, who was diagnosed with t(4;14) + 1q in 2008, will now (January 2016) start treatment, I'm looking into alternative remedies. She's been on various supplements and we're also working on diet. Just made our first bone broth (femur bone and back bone) and are trying things like Essiac Tea.

I have been very fortunate that my insurance pays for me to get massages twice a week. I have been receiving the massages since December when it all started up with me. I would highly recommend a massage specialist thatt knows about cancer and myeloma to help everyone's body. I found found the massage removes the chemo faster. The massage helps to make sure I do not have complications from the Revlimid too.
I find that when I get a massage the day after my chemo, my recuperation is so much faster that week. One week my therapist could not come see me because she had an illness. That week I was not able to get over the chemo until the weekend, whereas with the massage, I usually am able to get back to being active on Thursday.

Dear forum friends:
My multiple myeloma experience is posted several times. The day I was staged multiple myeloma stage II IgG kappa, my wife took charge of my diet. Some of the things were added, reading on website being good or bad for cancer, like sugar is bad, turmeric is good.
Here is my diet plan or restrictions:
Thank you.

Re: Alternative therapy / treatments for multiple myeloma
Hi,
My uncle has been recently diagnosed with multiple myeloma (bone marrow). He is also a heart patient with pacemaker installed. There is a sign of water in heart and lungs. Doctors suggested to go for chemo, but there is a high risk whether his body will resist or not?
Can anyone let me know of any alternative or naturopathy method of medications considering his present body condition?
