Hi All,
My 66 year old grandfather was recently diagnosed with IgA smoldering myeloma. He has a total M protein of less than 2 g/dl, a near-normal kappa/lambda ratio, and a plasma cell count of 15-20% on bone marrow biopsy. His oncologist said to watch and wait. We want to try alternative therapies for multiple myeloma, and feel like this is a safe time to do so because he's not taking any medications those therapies could interact with. We want to put together a list of alternative therapies we would like to try before his upcoming appointment. Does anyone have any suggestions for supplements or alternative therapies they've had experience with as smoldering myeloma patients? We've read that people take curcumin, inositol, reservatrol and green tea extracts. Also, if you know any ongoing SMM studies, please let me know. His only other medical problems are high blood pressure. for which he takes lisinopril, and atrial fibrillation for which he takes flecainide. He also takes 325mg of aspirin/day.
Thank you for your time!

Re: Alternative Therapies for Smoldering Multiple Myeloma
Hi Grandson,
Thanks for your posting. All of us in the Beacon community hope your grandfather is doing well and continues to do so for a very long time!
Could we make a suggestion in regard to the follow-up postings people make in this thread?
In particular, could we try to make it so that, as much as possible, we try to include as much useful information in response to Grandson's request right here in the thread itself, instead of making suggestions like "you should check this webpage" or "you should check that webpage"?
That way the thread can be a helpful all-in-one-place resource that people can refer to whenever this type of question comes up again.
For example, if you take a specific supplement that Grandson didn't mention in his list, perhaps you can explain what dose you take and why you to believe it's a good idea to take the supplement.
Again, the point is to make this thread as useful a one-stop resource that we can point to in the future if and when similar questions come up.
Thanks!
