Our daughter is 35. She was diagnosed with multiple myeloma at 33, had induction therapy with Velcade and dex, an autologous stem cell transplant (SCT), and maintenance therapy with 5 mg Revlimid. She was in CR after induction and still after SCT. She stayed in CR with the 5 mg Revlimid for about 18 months.
Now she has relapsed. They upped the Revlimid to 10 mg, but the numbers continued to go up and she had bad side effects. Now she has started Kyprolis and dex, 3 weeks on and 1 week off.
They have started talking about getting her brother tested to see if he is a match for an allogeneic transplant. This scares me. I think she should try other meds, immunotherapies, before doing an allogeneic transplant. Yes, see if our son matches and even collect his stem cells for the future, but have more time trying other options.
She is young so to hit it full force with allo transplant would be great, but from what I have read it doesn't necessarily work and you're still on all kinds of meds afterwards. Plus the graft versus host disease is frightening.
If anyone out there is younger and has done an allo transplant, I would love to hear your thoughts.
