Hi, I've just finished my first auto SCT [autologous stem cell transplant] and will be doing a donor [allogeneic] transplant in a few months (mini).
I'm in the fortunate position of having both my brother and sister being an identical 10 point match. My doctors are currently looking at which is best, CMV status etc.
My question is: Is gender of donor a factor to consider in terms of what gives a better outcome?
I know they prefer male donors as they produce higher numbers of stem cells, but I've also read that gender matching might have a better outcome.
Any advice appreciated, thanks
Laura
