I know everyone is different and not sure if this will help anyone ...
As I mentioned in an earlier forum thread, my mom has been in so much pain, but if she takes Percocet [oxycodone and acetaminophen / paracetamol / Tylenol] and two Aleve [Naproxen], the pain goes almost totally away. Tylenol, aspirin, etc. have not worked at all.
Just thought I would share her success at tackling the pain.

You might look at trying to reduce the Percocet and see if she still does well. At one point, I had really bad pain that Dilaudid [hydromorphone] and morphine were not helping much. I took an anti-inflamatory, ibuprofen, and the pain subsided considerably and I cut the Dilaudid and morphine way back.
I do not believe that one should needlessly suffer in pain and I would have been taking the Percocet too if that was needed, but I also found that long term use of opiates can shut down the muscles that push food through the digestive track, leading to a number of problems. This is not uncommon. Ask you mothers doctor if she runs into this problem as well, they know how to deal with this.

I am not exactly sure why, but when I was diagnosed my doctor was very clear that I should not take anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen and naproxen. I was prescribed Celebrex [celecoxib] instead.

I think the reason the doctor doesn't want you to take Aleve [naproxen] is to protect the kidneys. Especially if you have light chain disease, as I do. I have been given strict instructions about staying away from those otc drugs as well.

With pain control--It's a Yin and a Yang scenario...
If she's taking Revlimid--she is already s'posed to take an 81 grain aspirin daily. ( Venous clotting)
NSAIDS can be very hard on the GI Tract, Liver, and Kidneys, in a short period of use--especially when they react with other meds and alcohol.. Naprosyn also has sodium--so fluid management becomes an issue to manage. (See, Loop of Henle, sodium retention, and Diuresis)
If one has a Hx of Peptic Ulcer disease/ Crohn's, etc , Nsaids and aspirin ( non-buffered) can cause many problems, quickly.
Opiods cause a slow-down or loss of Peristalis, in the Bowel. Caffiene , et al ( and antibiotics) stimulates the Bowel--but also increases gastric production / juices--leading to GI upset / Ulcer activation. A Vicious circle, indeed.
Celebrex is about $200 a scrip--expensive stuff. Great for Arthur's-itis !!
The Cox-II's are/were once thought to play a beneficial role in suppressing multiple myeloma activity ( thru reducing Inflammation). More studies made that +/- effect over NSAIDS questionable ?. It is not clear.
Percocet /Darvocet, et al has a high degree of addiction and tolerance. Class IV Narco.
If your Mom has 6 months to live--press on. If not, be very judicious with that class of drugs.
Patch type analgesics might also have role, in chronic pain scenarios.
Some people get relief with PT, Acupuncture, and holistic treatments.
