Albumin level - how important?

by Jainsie on Sun Dec 29, 2013 5:48 pm

How important is it to monitor albumin levels in myeloma. My husband's albumin is not being checked..or is there another term for albumin that would be listed on the lab results?

Albumin is a standard item that is measured in a comprehensive metabolic panel. You definitely want to be getting a comprehensive metabolic panel as part of ongoing regular tests, as this test provides key information regarding one's kidney & liver function and general electrolyte levels.

Albumin is also a key indicator for revealing the severity of multiple myeloma and it is used in the staging of the disease.

It might show up as ALB, Al, or A on the metabolic panel.
